Getting to know production at Yartsevskaya Fanera.

We are launching a series of posts showing how plywood is made, step by step, from the arrival of timber at the mill to the packaging of finished products.

Today, we cover the first and one of the most important stages: accepting veneer logs.

We use only birch veneer logs harvested in the Smolensk Region.

What is a veneer log?
It is a section of a birch trunk prepared specifically for veneer production. It is subsequently peeled into thin sheets of wood, which are used to make plywood.

Before the wood enters production, every batch undergoes a strict acceptance inspection. Our specialists check the raw material's volume and quality against the established requirements.

We inspect every log for:
• dry wood;
• rot;
• fungal damage;
• insect boreholes;
• drying cracks;
• peeling bark;
• defects in trunk shape and other flaws that may affect plywood quality.

After acceptance, the logs are tallied using a professional roundwood accounting method. Each log is measured, its volume determined and the results recorded in a dedicated accounting system. This enables precise control of incoming raw-material quantities and transparent record keeping.

Quality plywood production begins with this careful inspection. A reliable result requires quality raw material.

In the next post, we will show what happens to the logs after acceptance and how their journey towards high-quality birch plywood begins.
